Leo is all set to take one of the biggest openings down south. If a hindi film with a big star was a remake of a prominent hollywood movie like “A History of Violence”, would it work today? Seeing the trend of complete rejection of remakes by the hindi audience?

  1. remakes are fine , if the director brings something new to the table not frame by frame adaption or similar screenplay ( lsc was similar in that sense ) ….leo is looking fresh because its not frame by frame adaption but directors own take on story

  2. Leo is polar opposite of History of violence from Trailer. History of violence is basically a drama with very little action and action is very raw, short and brutal. It feels like realistic movie. The acting is incredibly subtle. The only industry where such a movie will be a mainstream hit is malayalam.

Leo is its own thing with just the general plot from the novel but it has big action set pieces. hero single handedly beating up an entire truck load of henchman and incredibly subtle Anirudh BGM/s

I honestly can see SRK doing the hindi version and with right director we could have seen some great acting. Akshay kumar also works very well but he has ruined his brand by making Trash

  3. I am sure that a movie can work if there is conviction from the director, script writer. And audience is convinced about their conviction. After that, there will be a footfall, and if the movie is actually enjoyable, it will be a success.

Adipurush had amazing initial footfalls. Up until last moment people had hoped that the end product was atleast okay to an extent. There was conviction (apparently), marketing, and initial audience footfall even after the shit teaser and trailer. Audience members went with half expectations and returned with utter disappointment. Not only did they make a bad movie, they played with our emotions and religious sentiments.

I’d say, the best example of a good remake definitely is the Don remake. The original was already revered by everyone, and they did a good job making a cool movie. When movies like Pathaan can be a success, I am sure that if a good cast and story is given, a talented director can make a good movie. Then, they also have to spend on proper marketing to create a buzz.

  4. Leo is not a remake. It is more likely an adaptation from the book. And that too is a speculation. We’ll have to watch it to confirm it. Also even a remake done to suit our sensibilities will always work. If you are just remaking it frame by frame and expect ppl to like iy, the problem is with you and not the audience.

  5. The difference is the Tamil movie is being made by lokesh, who has made quality original action movies like kaithi and vikram. Idhar all the remakes are done by mediocre directors like Prabhu Deva, Rohit Shetty, Siddharth anand, etc

Whether it’s a remake or not doesn’t matter much if the movie is good. The Bollywood formula of lazily remaking a southern or Hollywood movie by adding some template Bollywood masala doesn’t work one bit.

For eg: check the difference between kaithi and bholaa.

Kaithi is a taut, action thriller with no songs and a relatively short run time, with no over the top runtime.

Bholaa absolutely massacres that movie, by adding item songs, over the top fights and ridiculous and unintentionally conical villain.

  6. Even if loki is remaking a movie that is familiar with the indian audience (hum, baasha, theri etc)it is from a DC novel The hindi directors should stop remaking south Indian movies ,we have entered a time where everyone has seen everything.
