Why do Indians call the deliveryman a delivery boy? Very confused

Here in US/Canada, we call them deliveryman or courier. I’ve heard Indian people refer to grown ass 50 year old deliveryman a boy. Why?

  1. Perhaps a holdover from back in the day when the job was mostly done by boys? Once a word becomes ingrained in your mind, it is hard to see it for what it is.
Also, in Indian English, the word courier may refer to the company or the parcel itself, but usually not the person delivering.

  2. For same reasons Americans drive on parkways and park on driveways. Or call a national championship World Series. Quirks of local culture/language.

My favorite: break a leg – how is that connected to doing well I have never understood.

Courier Delivery in India is not seen as a lifelong job. Like American fast food jobs, it was supposed be a first job.
